There has been much controversy about the SRA’s new Handbook and, in particular, its suggestion that people may be able to offer a cheaper legal service from outside the regulated sector.

Amid horror from some consumer quarters, the SRA are proposing a more relaxed approach to its regulatory function that offers a range of options to existing law firms, and new start-ups, that will try to address the unmet legal need in the marketplace – where only 10% of people with a legal problem actually consult a solicitor.

This webinar explores the key provisions of the new version of the Handbook and explores the new practical alternatives available upon their implementation in 2018.

Topics covered will include:

  • Key provisions generally
  • New Handbook provisions
  • (Two) new Codes of Conduct
  • New Practice Framework Rules
  • Do you want to be regulated – or not?
  • 7 (or more) options for private practice
  • What will clients make of the new regime?
  • Will they care?
  • Do we need to fear the Accountants again?
  • “ATOL-protected” – what does being solicitor actually mean?
